Foreign exchange matters to Indian families and businesses with connections across borders. Two widely watched currency pairs are GBP/INR, the value of the British pound against the Indian rupee, and USD/INR, the value of the US dollar against the rupee.
WHY RATES MOVE
Interest-rate expectations, inflation, trade flows, global risk appetite and demand for different currencies can all affect exchange rates. No single factor determines where a currency will move next.
THE RATE YOU SEE MAY NOT BE THE RATE YOU RECEIVE
A headline market exchange rate is not necessarily the rate a bank or remittance company offers a customer. Providers may apply a spread, transfer fee, intermediary charge or recipient-side fee.
COMPARE THE TOTAL RECEIVED
Before transferring money, compare how many rupees the recipient will receive after all fees, the expected delivery time and the provider's protections. Check the provider's official website and regulatory status.
Be wary of fraud and requests to send funds to unfamiliar accounts.
